Callers report spotting the Food Network crew from "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" -- the show in which wild-haired Guy Fieri waxes philosophic (and enthusiastically hungry) about all sorts of places and specialties -- filming around town. Among the reported locations: Jake's Good Eats, South 21, Cabo Fish Taco, dish and Landmark Diner. It's my understanding that mum's the word from restaurant owners, but you can hardly expect excited diners to keep secrets...
Heard via a very good source that he indeed is filming a spot in Cabo Fish Taco and it will be featured.
ReplyDeleteLandmark? really? Did he stop by San Remo after?
ReplyDeleteI saw him in the Gateway Village Starbucks on Tuesday morning around 8am.
ReplyDeleteSan Remo is closed
ReplyDeleteDefinitely saw him taping at South 21 yesterday at noon. Red Camaro convertible and him in the parking lot with the cameraman shooting. I'd have stopped but quickly crossing two lanes of traffic on Independence is out of the question at any hour of the day or night.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is so annoying in those TGI Friday's commercials
ReplyDeleteGuy posted a comment and picture on his Twitter account that he was indeed filming at South 21. I saw his crew and red convertible at Cabo Fish Taco during lunch. The crew was interviewing diners while periodically telling the rest of us to keep our voices down!
ReplyDeleteWish they would have done Mert's!
ReplyDeleteThey were at Landmark this past Tuesday. The show will be aired in the spring.
ReplyDeleteFor gosh's sakes, don't let him go to Mert's. I got a fruit fly as an extra ingredient in my salad that I ordered there and they still MADE ME PAY FOR IT! That place is terrible and I'll never go back.
ReplyDeleteYep...he swung by the Penguin too but don't think they were filming there.
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to email him to go to Lupe's Cafe. Somebody grab him and send him there. That place is in his wheelhouse.
ReplyDeleteI hope he does go to Jake's Good Eats. That is an awesome place. Small, but very good food. Gotta try their fried oyster appetizers!
ReplyDeleteHe will be at Landmakr again on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he missed out if he didn't go to Merts.
ReplyDeleteHe ought to go to Q2U BBQ Pit in Lake Wylie!!
ReplyDeleteMerts is a JOKE! I am suprised you folks do not want him to go to the sacred ground where the Coffee Cup once stood and place a wreath.
ReplyDeleteHe's an even bigger idiot than he looks if he doesn't go to Brooks' Sandwich House.
ReplyDeletewhy does he need to wear a wristband?
ReplyDeletemissing out on moosehead
ReplyDeleteThey already did a segment on The Penguin and BBQ king a couple of years ago. He could have been in The Penguin to check up.
ReplyDeleteHe did the Penguin and BBQ King last year. He should do Price's or Zack's.
ReplyDeleteSend him to Mac's Speed Shop
ReplyDelete>>I got a fruit fly as an extra ingredient in my salad that I ordered there and they still MADE ME PAY FOR IT!
ReplyDeleteThey couldn't have charged you much for the fruit fly: they're tiny. But it is almost pure protein and fiber, I realize.
ah moosehead..Yep a place he should def. go! I'm there at least once a week if not twice!
ReplyDeleteLast July, I heard from someone that he was going to be at Hinson's Drive-In in Matthews NC. I had never heard of the place, but it is out Independence Blvd - next to the topless place! Seems pretty far-fetched to me, looks more like a dump than a dive!!
ReplyDeleteHe comes to the Penguin often when not working or in the general area, even when he's not filming.
ReplyDeleteHe's on the road so much and away from his family. The wristband is a sign to his oldest son that Guy is remembering him. His son wears one too when dad's away. Guy is very into his family. Very admirable.
ReplyDeleteWhat's about Price's Chicken Coop or Green's?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteMert's is the worst restaurant in the world. Food is good, but there is absolutely no business in the world that has worse customer service. I'll never go back.
ReplyDeleteGlad he went to Cabo. I used to live in NoDa and loved that place.
Jake's Good Eats is awesome! I'm so glad he went there. It's right in Guy's wheelhouse as far as out of the way little places with unbelievably good food! If you haven't gone there yet you should!
ReplyDeletewww.jakesgoodeats.com
Hinson's is actually really good food and it is a dive but thats kinda the show
ReplyDeleteI second the motion to send him to Brooks' Sandwich Shop - can't get enough of those burgers.
ReplyDeletesorry... make that Brooks' Sandwich House
ReplyDeleteToo bad that Mert's and Zada Jane's didn't make the cut! I've been to Cabo Fish Taco and never had a bad meal there.
ReplyDeletegreat show---but did I see an ambulance following this guys Camaro? Yes, he'll die with a smile on his face, but he's a heart attack waiting to happen...hey---maybe he'll croak while downing some greasy burger and Charlotte will get some news coverage about a topic that is NOT banking related!
ReplyDeleteYes! Definitely get him to Brooks Sandwich House!
ReplyDeleteCan't beat Jake's Good Eats!
ReplyDeleteGet the shrimp po boy... best I've had, including Nawlins.
Jake's Good Eats
All of the locations mentioned are true...My suggestion for a visit is Mac Speed Shop
ReplyDeleteHe should try Lebowski's on East Blvd as well. Best wings in town and a beef on weck that melts in your mouth. Burgers and BBQ is incredible also.
ReplyDeleteHe is missing out if he does not stop in Moosehead for some wings and other great food!
ReplyDeleteJakes good Eats? Heard of it, but never been there. I heard Jake Delhomme was the mastermind behind it and planned to open it for a while, but he dropped the ball and someone else opened it. Haha..had to say it..no truth to it as far as I know, but Jake Delhomme dropping the ball...haha...gets paid $20 mill to drop it!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Showmars...hahaha. Charlotte's own little good food fast place.
BROOKS!!! I could eat that everyday.
ReplyDeleteHe will get to Mac's Speed Shop when the smoke clears in January.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else see the irony in the Food Network sending a person who does T.G.I.Friday's commercials to cover the Charlotte food scene? Let's get excited when someone like Anthony Bourdain comes to town.
ReplyDeleteWish he would go to Community Culinary School off Remount Rd. where they train the unemployed in culinary skills. A great tie in would be to go to Sadie's which just won Soul Food restaurant of the year and was one of their first graduates. An incredible story- check out their website and go next Thurs for a FREE gourmet meal that the students cook. They also make all 800 meals each day for Friendship Trays...
ReplyDeleteI know I'll be chastised, but... Where is this Brooks Sandwich House place?
ReplyDeleteSaw him in Charlotte airport on Thursday morning, 10/22
ReplyDeleteI can see him going to Zada Jane's. But if he does, he better plan a 2-part episode. The first half will be "Guy Waits for a Server".
ReplyDeleteHA! Then the second half can show Guy finishing his cup of coffee and waiting 20 minutes for a refill. Its no secret ZJ has bad service, I just can't understand why so many people put up with it.
