It's almost tournament time and this year, we're doing burgers -- yes, even though North Carolina makes restaurants cook them to medium, thereby helping us avoid the chance of hideous health issues and simultaneously robbing us of really juicy beef.
Where should I start looking for the 16 "teams" for this year's bracket?
THIS IS NOT A VOTE; we'll let you vote in two "teams" when I do the bracket. This is a place to suggest your favorites. Then I'll put together a bracket, THEN you'll vote!
If you've got a favorite hole in the wall, spill!
ADDED NOTE: In Section .2609 (e) (3) of 15A NCAC 18A of the N.C. administrative code, it is made clear: This state requires that "ground beef and foods containing ground beef shall be cooked to an internal temperature of at least 155 F". All ground beef, period, as helpful Mecklenburg County health folks have continued to clarify for years, calling the idea that a place that grinds its own meat can then serve it however it wants "urban legend." (That's because the grinding is the possible problem: It creates lots of surfaces for potential pathogens, which must all be heat-treated to kill them.)

Moosehead Grill should definitely be in the running for best burger in Charlotte.
Does it have to be in Charlotte? My vote goes to 3 Monkeys in Harrisburg. Yum and hand cut fries. :-)
Bricktops has a great burger.
Alexander Michaels! yummmmm
The crunchburger at liberty.
From a Charlotte Native these are my 5 best Burgers in Town.
1. Pinky's
2. Mr K's
3. Comet Grill (Good Fries too)
4. Firebirds
5. South 21's (Super Boy)
don't laugh at me...I like steak & shake's triple steakburger with cheese fries. I like it better than 'five guys'. I haven't tried the others, but I will soon. The other franchise burger I've tried lately, sonic, has made me ill each of 2x I've tried it.
Kickstand in Plaza Midwood
Topz in Ballantyne. Wild Bill burger in the "fully loaded" category. Turkey burger is the best in town!
Kickstand is a slam dunk. The Hangover burger will fix last nights bad decisions.
Obviously from the multiple establishments listed below the hands down favorite is the burger that comes from Mooresville Meat Center. Many of the restaurants below get their meat from there... Unreal quality.
BIG DADDY'S
The Castro Burger at Lulu is served Monday thru Friday lunch & brunch on Saturday and Sunday (based on the availability of ingredients).
Okay..I get it. To the anonymous poster that posted Brooks about 50 times,,,clearly trying to skew results. They are good, but let people post without your repeated posts. Thanks!!!
Gee thanks Helen. I had other plans for the weekend, but now I have to go and try some of these spots I didn't know about!
crepe cellar. hands down needs to be one of the 16.
The Burger Co. (Morehead St)
The Liberty
Mr. K's. Game over.
Eddie's Place. Lived in Charlotte over 30 years and the burgers at Eddie's are the best. Also has an adult staff and cold beer.
The Lulu burger...I dream about this one.
A Charlotte landmark and one of the few remaining original treasures! Zack's - the Zack's special is without a doubt - one of the best, if not the best, burgers in Charlotte. Over 40 years in business - must be doing something right! Trust a native - it is the best burger in town!

Belle Acres, if you know someone who can take you in.
Big Daddy's...hands down! Cantina burger and mushroom cap burger are AMAZING, Nick's patty melt and the Sam I Am are to die for. No one else has them beat in my opinion.
Too bad the Pressbox is closed...they would rival anyone's burger.
I'd have to go with The Double Block from the Penguin and Mr. K's Southern Style.
The cowfish
Snoops! Best burger in town!
Muellers (Myers Park)
The Basic Cheeseburger
Comet Grill, Pinky's, Lupie's

Cowfish rocks!
The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar is a true original...
Never been done before.
Zack's Special w/ a side dog. The categories will definitely matter.
If this is anything like the fry contest the worst will probably win(I'll have to go with kickstand on that) For the best try Halcyon. By far the best burger I've had since moving to this sad state of only overcooked burgers.
BT's Burger Joint in Steele Creek and Eat Here Now in Ayrsley.
Crepe Cellar in NODA!!
Comet Grill
Mueller's Sandwich Shop
Green's Downtown... It's been there forever and it's deeeelicious!

Big Daddy's is number one by far. Kickstand at number two. My husband says the new Kobe burgers at Jack's are awesome but I haven't had one myself yet.
The Gallery at Ballantyne Resort, Georges Brasserie, Eddie's Place.
If you want a burger that has some flavor and is cooked "medium" go to Fuddruckers in Matthews. Love their burgers. Also agree that Mueller's in Myers Park has great burgers.
The Elvis Burger @ Whiskey Warehouse

THE LEBOWSKI BURGER!!!
at Lebowski's in Dilworth
First thing first:
- Brooks' in NoDa
- Hop's in Matthews(after 9pm on a weekday with happy hour prices)
- RETIRED The Penguin, will be missed.
Second: The best burgers aren't in Charlotte because of that d#$% law. The best burgers I've ever had in cooked medium-rare from prime beef. I'm not a big traveler but BLT @ The Mirage in Las Vegas makes an mean burger cooked right.
No contest - Lebowski's. Unique flavor profiles, great rolls, the best turkey burger I've ever had, great value, friendliest staff, I could go on and on. An absolute must for the tournament.
- Lebowski's
- CowFish
- Rusty's Deli
The Turkey Burger at The Burger Company gets my vote.....sooooo good! Don't even get me started on the Tater Tot Nachos...OMG!
East Boulevard Bar and Grill is the best! Half pound burger with a fresh baked bun. I get it California style or Georgia style!
1980's-Providence Rd. Sundries all the way #2 with a CAN of cold Budweiser.
Late 1980's-McZ's served with hand-cut fries.
1990's-Five Steps Down big burger piled with great burger junk.
2000's-Moosehead Grill on a good day.
Present Day-East Boulevard Bar and Grill with the pepperjack pimento cheese and the circle fries.
Hands down, Big Daddy's Burger Bar rules the burger market in CLT!
They are thick, juicy and delicious - not to mention, hormone free beef! Can't beat them in this town!
Alexander Michael's in Fourth Ward - my favorite is with blue cheese and grilled onions.
Lebowski's in Charlotte has by far the best burger in town. Jerk style with Pineapple Salsa - no one else in town is putting together combinations like that! Don't forget the Spot Tots! Great atmosphere & a family owned joint.
Try the Charlotte 'Original' Betty's Pimento Cheese Burger at Harper's cooked mr - it's Certified Angus Beef and incredible
Try Wagyu burger at Mimosa Grill or Zink!
Rooster's all the way! You can tell right away it's high quality meat, and the price really good!
Top 3 are Burger co., Zacks, and Snoops. Burger Co.'s pimento cheeseburger is the best i've ever tasted. Zack special is a charlotte staple. Spoons AKA Snoops has always been a favorite of mine.
