5Church will open, if all goes according to plan, May 18 uptown, at the corner of North Church and Fifth streets. Serving a New American menu, executive chef Jamie Lynch says in a press release that he aims to "reflect the purity of local products and to advocate proper techniques of food preparation in a respectful manner." His resume includes Le Cirque, Cafe Boulud and Aureole (he was most recently at Barrington's in Charlotte), and his opening lineup includes roasted Szechuan pork belly, St. Louis-style toasted mushroom ravioli, New York strip with "J-1" steak sauce, roasted N.C. group, plus housemade breads, pastas and cheeses (and ramps, according to a photo from his Twitter feed @chefjlynch, shown below).
Owners are Patrick Whalen, who'll be operator and whose experience ranges from Frames Bistro and Bowling in New York to general managing at Butter in Charlotte; Alejandro Torio, also marketing director (with background as marketing director at Butter NC and co-founder of Fashion's Night Out in Charlotte), and Mills Howell, interior designer.Expect a look by Howell that is (according to its press) a "tongue-in-cheek interpretation of a neo-Victorian decor," "casual, yet refined" and "classic-meets-modern." Howell and colleagues have done Gallery Twenty-Two and Vida Cantina, among other Charlotte spots. Expect a feel, according to Torio, that's "where Uptown meets Plaza Midwood and Myers Park... an event experience."
The place will be open daily, serving lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, and will offer complimentary valet parking. Info: 704-919-1322; www.5Church.com.

Sounds promising. I've been hoping something would finally succeed in this location.
I live right down the street and I walk by everyday for work. I keep seeing new additions and I cannot wait to see the place finally finished!
This location is a revolving door.
The revolving door has been sealed shut. 5 Church is there to stay and will most definitely revolutionize hospitality in Charlotte. I can hardly wait too taste Chef Jamie Lynch's exceptional food in such a gorgeous space!
Eric Boyd and his team at Reaching Quiet Design have done an amazing job with the design of this place. Got a sneak peak the other day, nothing comparable in Charlotte. Can't wait! Congrats to Mills, Patrick, and Alejandro, and big props to Boyd and the RQ team
It will be fancy yet rustic, feminine yet masculine, think classic French meets modern Spanish and has a three-way with Asian fusion. Uptown, Dilworth, Gastonia and Mint Hill all rolled into one.
why do these people opening restaurants overhype themselves, leading to inevitable letdown? "event experience?" "uptown meets..."
Ugh.
I give this place 4 months. Sounds overpriced and gimmicky (I walk by everyday for work and looks it). A Wendy's would be more profitable.
I bet Michael Jordan is a part owner - prime for failure!
Overpriced? Not sure where in the article Helen says anything about price....
But I guess if Wendy's is what your looking for, anything would be overpriced.
For me it sounds very interesting, and if the food is as good as the Chef's resume makes it sound...i'm pretty pumped.
When I saw this article I thought another new church was starting up.

i think 5 church will be the coolest hotest restaurant in Charlotte
Uptown, Dilworth, Gastonia, and Mint Hill rolled into one. Gastonia, really! The only thing Gastonia should be rolled into is the Catawaba river.
And that location is a revolvimg door, I know it's been 4 different places in the last 6 years. Best of luck to the new owners
Can't wait for this spot to open. Finally something worth while coming to Uptown. With Jamie Lynch as chef, you know the food is going to be amazing. I've walked by a few times and the inside looks super cool ... charlotte is just getting cooler by the minute.
Exciting! I can't wait to try it =D
You nay sayers quessed wrong five figures every night serving over 300 food is to kill for and the style is awsome. But if you want a wendys i have their recipe.
Oh, you haters. Relax, It's just a restaurant. It's hip, it's delicious, and its everything they said it would be.
But don't worry, there's still a Wendy's somewhere nearby that will cater to your wallet. No need to go having an 'experience' when living your everyday life.
This place is def working through the expected kinks of a new spot but they will be here to stay, you can bet on that.
