The Alaska Department of Fish & Game is important to restaurant-goers for one date: the opening of Copper River salmon fishing season. This year, it looks as if May 13 will be the one -- it'll be announced for sure May 7. The sockeye salmon catch (they're each about 6-7 pounds) is predicted to be about 1,270,000 fish, with king salmon (20-30 pounds or more) about 17,000.
