Phat Burrito heads to Elizabeth

The first franchised location of South End's Phat Burrito will go into 415 Hawthorne Lane sometime around July 1, says partner Jeff Bardin. Jeff and Paul Bardin, owners of the Snoops location there that closed June 2, and Bob and Patty Dowdy (of National Restaurant Properties) will be owners and operators of the new place. The menu and prices will be identical to South End's, with burritos, tacos, salads and more (see www.phatburrito.com for more). Jeff Bardin adds "Expansion is going to happen; we will have franchise rights for the area (and) can look other places, too." The Snoops burger place at 2900 Westinghouse Blvd. will remain open, and there are no plans to turn it into another Phat Burrito, Bardin said.

Nice welcome to the neighborhood!!

Wow - expanding? Hopefully the food at the Elizabeth location will taste good, and they hire people with great attitudes to work there. This would be completely opposite from the Southend location!

Used to love it but it has definitely gone down hill. Maybe the new location will put some effort into the food.

Who said Taco Bell?

What a loser! Phat Burrito is freakin' awesome and a Charlotte Tradition.

Taco Bell? Seriously, what is wrong with you?

Phat Burrito has great food, and is always filling. The workers need a serious attitude adjustment there though - always rude, slow, and unattentive.

Easy on the scene, make my burrito.

Never heard of Phat Burrito? Do they serve Corona there?

I have had my order messed up/delayed here more times than I can remember, but I keep going back cause the food is worth it. They have a monopoly in the South End, but if another place comes in I would be glad to go there!

The Southend location is a a complete dump.

Maybe the folks behind the counter that takes the orders will be friendly. I haven't eaten at Phat Burrito since Chipotle opened because of the continually bad attitude displayed by the same guy over several years. When you approach the counter, ask how they are doing and have a friendly attitude and you get back the attitude that you should just be grateful he was taking your order, the food isn't that good to go back for again. Chipotle's folks are far more friendly and the restaurants are more accessible since all of us don't live in Uptown.

Qdoba>Chipotle>Phat Buritto >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Taco Bell

Id rather have Spoon's back. Phat Burrito is a quality place, but the parking in that location is a real nightmare. This will make it twice as bad.

No way is Qdoba better than Phat Burrito or Chipotle. Qdoba is just a mediocre knockoff of Chipotle.

Sad that Snoops is gone but Phat Burrito is great.

Sad that Snoops closed. But Phat Burrito is great.

To the guy who prefers Taco Bell. Congratulations. You're the only one I've heard of who like Taco Bell.

Good for them. I am sure that this spot will succeed in Elizabeth. I know that they tried in Plaza Midwood a few years ago and didn't work out but I think they will do well now with the boom this area has seen.

Phat Burrito is my favorite burrito, though I do have the occasional urge to hit up Qdoba, Moe's, or Chipotle for a different flavor (and Baja Fresh, but unfortunately I can't satisfy that craving in Charlotte). But Phat is my favorite...I want a Phat Burrito now just thinking about it.

Hopefully they change up the menu, or at least offer daily specials. Anyone ever been to Mamacitas in Asheville? Mamacitas blows Phat Burrito and Chipotle out of the water in terms of quality of offerings. Would love to see a Mamacitas open in Elizabeth (or something like it new owners *hint*).

Another Charlotte Landmark goes away.

I have never -- not once -- had an issue with service at Phat Burrito. In fact, quite the opposite. They are always very friendly and very fast. And the food can't be beat. We sometimes ride the light rail from work Uptown just to get our fix for lunch -- always worth the trip.

Look forward to the new location. Please keep the same great food, awesome vibe, and cool staff!

Wow the location of Spoon's Ice Cream had been there since the 1940s. They were know for their cheeseburgers and ice cream. I'm really surprised that the city of Charlotte didn't decide to turn it into a church or a drugstore. We really need more churches and drugstores in the neighborhood.

It's too bad Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn from Wilmington isn't opening a Charlotte location. If that ever happens, it would put Phat Burrito out of business for sure. If you're ever in Wilmington, go eat at Flaming Amy's...not only is their food ten thousand times that of Phat Burrito, but they also have a salsa bar with a bunch of different homemade salsas...the pineapple being completely mint! Just the best!!!
