Foskoskies on Shamrock will close after serving this Saturday, Oct. 13. "This decision was neither an easy nor a hasty one," Walter Rushton said in an email, and noted that regulars seem to be cutting back on dining out. Good news for fans, though: He says he'll continue to do some holiday and special-occasion catering and "may consider" a special-order baking business.
The restaurant, which Rushton named after his grandfather's Foskoskies Drive-In, Restaurant, Motel and Ice Delivery Service in Georgia more than 60 years ago, is at 2121 Shamrock Drive on Charlotte's east side, in the former Pike's Pharmacy's restaurant spot. (NOTE: The pharmacy is still open!) Rushton said his grandfather had made up the name. Before opening this, Rushton had worked for 13 years at Dilworth's Pewter Rose.

Sad to see this place go. Always had a great lunch there. Meat Loaf was outa sight!!
Sad news indeed.
This is unfortunate - Foskoskies is a hidden gem. Maybe it would have survived if the local food media would have done one less article on the new chicken sandwich at Wendy's and dedicated some ink to a local joint.
Very cool spot thats off the beaten path. Hopefully, another local restauranteur takes over.
So sad to see this happen. Walter and the team are like family. I also have to agree that it would have been nice to see this level of attention given to Foskoskie's and all the other great local eats in Charlotte before they close. On an even sadder note, one more piece of the bedrock in the east side community falls away. From hosting local artists to bringing back a farmer's market to the neighborhood to supporting Shamrock Gardens, Fosksoskie's will be missed by more than just the lunch and dinner crowd. Walter and Frank gave us hope that the east side was more than drive-bys and pawn shops. We will miss your restaurant but hope you stay with our community.
Had one of the best brunches of my life here not too long ago. This is a shame.
