Nick's Steak and Taphouse has closed uptown at 225 E. 6th St. (the former LaVecchia's spot). Managing partner Clyde Gilfallan said the place just didn't catch on, and the owners are in negotiations to sell the business, with its accompanying five-year lease. The Nick's Steak and Taphouse in Gastonia is still open, however, as is the relocated LaVecchia's in uptown (at the Hearst Tower), and that restaurant will debut a new lunch menu, most likely next week, said Gilfallan. Expect a more midscale lunch menu than its most recent one, with chef Michael Rayfield doing salads, sandwiches, light pastas, "and a burger or two."

I never heard of it either. I think that location is just bad and out of the way. Nothing that ever opens there stays open.
Nick's in G-Town won't be there much longer either due to the way the place is run....
Wow! That was quick. I thought it just opened.
LaVecchias is always a great place and the chef is very good at all aspects of his menu and preperation.
The exterior was not welcoming. The patio which stands between the street and the entrance could hold at least 8 tables and only had 2-3. Talk about sparse. The signage a bit cheap looking. I thought they didn't want anyone to come inside.
I'm not surprised they didn't last.

How the heck do you figure that? Lavecchia's did well in that spot for years!!
I'm also not surprised they closed. I think they were open for like two months. Looked like a fly by night operation what with the loose signage banners that they spent all of $100 on. Not a very well thought out arrangement in the least.
