Wine room shifts; one closes

Yn in Dilworth, an offshoot of the next-door 131 Main, has become Sidekicks, a sports bar concept. "We were competing against ourselves," explains manager Mel Funk, since the menu was dishes from 131 Main; now the fare is fresh-battered chicken tenders, wings, baked subs, nachos, cheese fries, fried shrimp and the like. Dishes still come out of the 131 Main kitchen. If you loved the wines and food from Yn, you can get those (but not the flights) at 131 Main.

Sidekicks has big-screen TVs, bottled beers, a few frozen drinks and some wines, plus upscale liquors. Look for live entertainment to come, along with event nights, from karaoke to trivia. 1315 East Blvd.; 704-343-0131 (this rings at 131 Main; phone's not yet in the new space).

Also gone: Dolcetto Wine Room at Piedmont Town Center.

Another sports bar!? That's exactly what Charlotte does not need. Yn was a unique place to drink wine, something Charlotte does not have enough of. I am very disappointed that Yn is no more. 131 Main does not feel like a wine bar, that's why people were going to Yn. It's very sad that big screen tv's are going to fill that beautiful space, but thank goodness there will be yet another place to wings. Not all of Yn's customers will flock over to 131 Main, so instead of being concerned about "competing with themselves," they'll just lose business.

I was very disappointed when I arrived at Yn last Tuesday to find out it was another sports bar.....wow what a clever concept. It is definitely not the same atmosphere or food and very few wines! I will not be returning :(

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Just because Yn closed doesn't mean people will go to 131 Main. I've been once, won't be going back.

While Charlotte does have a lot of sports bars, not many are worth visiting. I'm hoping this one is different but doubt it since all seem to try the same model of mediocrity.

I went to the Sidekicks over the weekend and it was fantastic. The servers were friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere was still very classy but not as stuffy, the food was fresh with lots of options. I'm sorry to see the Yn go but Sidekicks is great.

Did whoever make this decision not walk outside the front door of 131 and look left and right? East Blvd Bar and grill is to the right and Sutton House is to the left. Why would East Blvd need another sports bar? Dilworth needs a great wine bar like Yn. What a sad decision. I don't see Sidekicks lasting long, but hopefully that doesn't leave us with an empty space on East Blvd.
